Pocket Lexi comes with it’s own eBook store containing books prepared with features supported by the reader application. Reading functionality is provided with swiping gestures. The app also includes an index for moving to different pages and it allows for bookmarking.

Each eBook contains interactive features targeted for specific language skills. The first eBook is embedded in the application and concentrates on figurative language, word replacements, and reading comprehension. Each interactive activity is scored in the background as the reader progresses. Quantitative reports are provided which can be viewed an analyzed within the application. Student record keeping is supported with all books.

The books include stunning imagery and professionally recorded narration. The app also allows for students or parents to record their own voice reading the app. Options allow for listening to the pre-recorded narration, self-narration, or no narration. Each eBook comes bundled with both a matching game and various jigsaw puzzles, each with varying degrees of difficulty for students of different ages.

Each book also comes in both professional and lite versions. The professional versions are geared toward educators and therapists.

Pro Version Includes:

1. A comprehension test at the end of each book to evaluate the reader’s ability to assimilate the information presented.

2. Ability to simultaneously use the books with multiple children, allowing the children to take turns on different pages, keeping the scores associated with the individual students.

3. Ability to send reports via electronic mail.

Following is a description of the embedded eBook:

Follow our central character as he encounters the strangest day in his life. It seems things are never what they seem, but he appears to be the only one that notices. As he prepares for school, he learns that his school bus is actually a spaceship and his clothes are hanging from lizards in the closet. And to top things off, his mom has covered his pancakes with worms instead of syrup. Help him fix all these strange things and watch them change before your eyes. Oh, don’t forget to search for hidden hotspots on the pages. If you find them, an audio reinforcement confirms the find.

This interactive story allows the reader to fix those strange occurrences. As they are fixed, the images change back to the way things are supposed to be. The reader is also presented with numerous instances of figurative language and asked to select the correct meaning. Each interactive component is accompanied by a reinforcement audio explaining what was changed and why.
